Chiltern Open Air Museum is a 45 acre site with 30 re-erected historic buildings in Chiltern hills and woodlands. The Museum is a charity and an independent museum with no government funding. The Museum also has a trading company, Chiltern Open Air Museum Enterprises Ltd. which consists of the Wood End Cafe and shop, which gifts profits back to the Museum.
Wood End Cafe is open from 11.00 am - 4.00 pm every day during the open season for the Museum. It is located at the other end of the site from the ticket office, about 10 minutes walk from the entrance. The cafe is housed in part of the Furniture Factory from High Wycombe and has a cosy seating area for around 30 people. The Cafe offers a menu of sandwiches made on the premises, sausage rolls (warmed), soup, a selection of salads, snacks, chocolates, fruit, ice creams and a wide range of drinks. Occasionally, on busy special event days, the Cafe is able to offer barbeque food either by the cafe or at another location.
The Ticket Office also stocks drinks, ice creams, and snacks.
In order to increase the sales points for refreshments and, especially as the location of the cafe is at the other end of the site, this year we would like to have another occasional sales point for drinks, ice creams and snacks in the Village Green area at busy times, which we anticipate to be on the following occasions :
- Sundays during school holiday periods and on special events
- Sunday and Monday during Bank Holidays
- Some week days during the school holidays
Terms :

£6 per hour |
| Hours: |
4 - 6 hours per day |
The Catering Manager is the only permanent member of staff available to staff the cafe. We require relief casual staff to staff the Village Green outlet or to occasionally help in the cafe at busy times when required. We are looking for people with the following:
- Good customer service skills
- Some knowledge of food hygiene (A Valid Food Hygiene Certificate an advantage)
- Some sales experience an advantage
- Able to work on your own and use initiative
- Able to work weekend days
- Able to be flexible about days and hours worked
We are unable to guarantee a certain number of hours each month and may need to revise our plans to take the effect of possible bad weather into account.
If you are interested in helping out as a Cafe Assistant from time to time at the Museum, please complete the application form and return it to Sue Shave / Chris Maynard at the Museum with a short letter explaining your availability to work.
We may then ask you to come in for an informal interview at Wood End Cafe with the Catering Manager during the weekend of 4 & 5 April or at another convenient time.
