Meet Soldiers from the English Civil War
(Siege Group)

Siege Group in a Tent

17th Century England is brought to life by The Siege Group’s living history camp where you might be able to meet the sutler as he prepares food for the group, a blacksmith, herbalist, woodworkers and other members of society, creating a real scene of the times.

During the day soldiers will be displaying many of the weapons and skills of the English Civil war.

Classic Vehicles Show
9 & 10 August

Cars

Classic Vehicle enthusiasts of all ages will be flocking to Chiltern Open Air Museum this weekend for our third Classic Vehicles Show.

There will be wide range of vintage cars, motorcycles, bicycles, landrovers and even a fire engine on show from individual owners and members of numerous clubs and societies. Vintage cars will include Morris', Austins, Citroen Specials, Rileys and many more. Motorcycle enthusiasts will be able to see a range of vintage motorcycles from the London Motorcycle Museum amongst others.

Even veteran bicycles will be on display, including the Museum's own collection of early 20th Century bicycles. Agricultural vehicles will also be represented with Series 2 landrovers, tractors, and traditional horse drawn farming machinery.

If weather permits, there may some opportunities to see the vehicles driving around our arena at 2 pm each day and again from 4 pm as the vehicles process out of the Museum.

The Great War
16 & 17 August

British soldiers learn to drill and prepare for the Great War at our training camp this weekend. Throughout the event, visitors will have the opportunity to meet our “brave boys” as they go about their normal camp routine.

The following specific activities will be taking place on both days:

10.30 am - 10.35 am
Presentation of Colours
11.15 am - 12.00 pm
Rifle Drill
2.00 pm - 2.45 pm
Presentation and display on the evolution of equipment and tactics during the Great War followed by troops demonstrating a platoon assault (this will include the firing of blank ammunition)
4.00 pm - 4.05 pm
Final presentation of the Colours

The Great War Society provides an insight into the everyday lives of the British Tommy, and all their members are happy to answer your questions throughout the event.

Meet the Roman Army
(Roman Military Research Society)

Romans on the move

The Roman Military Research Society is a research and re-enactment group specialising in the latter part of the 1st Century AD.

The soldiers will present spectacular displays of Roman fighting techniques and displays each day. There will be opportunities to learn about Roman fashions with a fashion show performed by the Roman ladies!

Meet Sovereign the Shire Horse
30 & 31 August
Horse

Friendly resident Sovereign the Shire Horse and his owner will be around the Museum's traditional farmstead and Village Green area to greet visitors. Horse lovers will be able to groom Sovereign and see him in action around the site.
