Dress up for a Vermeer Painting
(History Re-enactment Workshop)
21 & 22 March

History Re-enactment Workshop are a group of enthusiasts and professionals who provide historical interpretations for museums. This weekend they will provide an interactive experience for visitors to learn about historical portraits focusing on the late Seventeenth Century and the paintings of Vermeer. Visitors of all ages will be able to dress up in clothing from this period and pose as if for a portrait sitting. -

Join the Roman Army
(The Vicus)

23 & 24 March

The new province of Britannia is brought to life through living history and combat displays by the very popular Romano-British Re-enactment Group, the Vicus.

Throughout the day see how they lived, their craftsmanship, their medicine and find out how Romano-British civilians, armoured Roman soldiers and native warriors managed to live together nearly 2,000 years ago. There will also be a chance to join the Roman Army during some of the timed sessions and take part in some military exercises.

There will also be timed activities and demonstrations:

12.00 pm Roman soldier training for children*
2.00 pm Roman and Celtic weapons and armour.
3.00 pm Roman soldier training for children*
4.00 pm Display of missile firing techniques

*places are limited and will be booked on a first come first served basis at the living history camp. This activity is suitable for children aged between 7 and 12 years old.

Meet Soldiers from the 1940s
29 & 30 March
D Day Training Weekend

Re-enactors from British and American Second World War Units will be on hand to meet visitors while the troops undertake training exercises to prepare for the Prelude to D-Day event at the Museum on 31 May and 1 June later this year. See 1940s vehicles in the Farmyard and Village Green area and watch the different units training in the fields, patrolling the woods and working in the farmyard and chat to the soldiers about their uniforms, equipment and the events of the Second World War.

Normal Museum admission prices apply.
Beeswax candle making available - additional charges apply.
