Traditional Harvest Festival
4 & 5 October
Thashing machine

The Museum welcomes visitors for the autumn celebrations of traditional harvest activities.

The weekend will include the opportunity to see the beautifully restored Ransome Sims and Jefferies Threshing Machine powered by the Museum's 1950s Fordson Major Tractor.

Living Social History Group re-enactors will be recreating a Victorian shooting party from the Harvest season and there will be seasonal harvest family activities such as threshing with a flail in Hill Farm Barn or making scarecrows.

The Big Draw - Art Activities
11 & 12 October

Budding artists will have a wonderful chance to take part in a variety of art activities inspired by the wonderful backdrop of the Museum's historic buildings and traditional Chiltern's landscape.

Traditional Knitting Weekend
18 & 19 October
Knitting

In honour of National Knitting Weekend the Museum is offering visitors the chance to have a go at this very traditional domestic craft.

Basket Making
25 & 26 October

Visitors will have a wonderful opportunity to watch and try out the traditional craft of basket making with the Museum basket makers.

Halloween Spectacular
31 October (6.00 pm to 9.00 pm)

We end the 2008 season with our ever popular family evening event at which children can enjoy Halloween in the safety of the Museum's enclosed 45 acre site.

  • Safe trick or treat for accompanied children up to 16 years old.
  • Go to the doors of Leagrave Cottages, Henton Chapel, Garston Forge and Amersham Prefab and see who turns up!
  • Listen to spooky stories
  • Lots of scary hands-on and hands-in activities for all ages!
  • Spectacular Fire Eating and juggling.
  • Get warm with hot soup and barbecued food (additional charge).
  • Come in Halloween costume - prizes for the best fancy dress.
  • Make your own halloween candle small additional charge applies).
