Making the most of your visit
Preliminary Visits
All teachers are welcome to visit the Museum during public opening hours on a free planning visit (please leave your name and your schools name at the ticket office). Any other members of your group will be charged the normal entrance fee. If you would like to meet a member of the Education Office, please telephone in advance to arrange a mutually convenient time.
Please note: Free admission for a pre-visit may not be available on certain Special Events. Please contact the Education Office in advance of your visit.
Resources for Teachers
When a visit is booked, all group leaders will receive a copy of the Teachers' Resource Pack and, where applicable, information relating to any pre-booked activity workshops chosen. Other resources are available for purchase from the Education Office. Click here for more details.
Museum Shop
You are welcome to visit the Museum shop before, during or after your visit. All children are welcome, although if you would prefer not to bring your class into the shop, pre-ordered souvenir packs are available. The Museum Shop is open from April until October and can be opened (upon request) for your group during visits in Febuary, March and November (please indicate on your completed booking form if you require this service).
Please note: a maximum of 12 school children are permitted in the shop at any one time. Children must be supervised in the shop at all times.
Welcome Letters

A welcome letter for the children visiting is provided on the CD-ROM in your booking pack. These letters postcards are designed to encourage interest in the visit by the children and their parents alike.

Health and Safety
To help to ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable visit and to help you complete your risk assessments please read the Guidelines on Practical Matters, Evaluation of Risk and Public Liability Insurance certificate.
Booking your visit

Visits can be provisionally booked by telephone or by filling in the provisional booking. You will then be sent a booking form and invoice for the date(s) agreed. By returning the top copy of the booking form the visit is confirmed.

Chiltern Open Air Museum is working towards improving access and facilities for people of all ages and abilities and is committed to providing educational and enjoyable visits for all. We recognise that some children with individual needs may find access to parts of our site, some of our historic buildings and some of our activity workshops difficult. All visits can be adapted to suit any special physical or educational needs. Please contact the Education Officer to discuss particular requirements.
