Early Years

Our story based workshops for 3 to 5 year olds are designed so that they are very flexible and therefore ensure that your group's needs are met. They are available either as a half day visit* or as a full day visit (usually from 10.00 am until 2.15 pm) for up to 30 children per group.

These workshops have a special price of £100.00 per workshop per class,
with a maximum of 2 groups per day.

'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'

After listening to the traditional tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, build the bears' home in the woods, enjoy a bowl of porridge cooked over an open fire and make a bear mask to take home.

'Jingle Bells'

Following this lovely Christmas story by Nick Butterworth, make your own sound trail around the Museum, make a rainstick from natural objects and make a simple traditional rattle to take home with you.

'Let's Trim the Tree'

Following the story of the same name by Bernice Chardiet, join in a hunt to collect natural materials around the Museum's woods to make glitter flowers and pinecones and a festive candle to decorate for Christmas.

'Mrs. Goose's Baby'

Following this story by Charlotte Voake, go on a 'who does this baby belong to?' hunt in the woods, matching farm and wild animals to their babies. Afterwards make a simple lamb collage to take home.

'The Enormous Turnip'

After listening to the traditional tale of The Enormous Turnip explore the Amersham Prefab vegetable plot and allotment. Then create a garden collage and sow seeds to take home with you.

'The Scarecrow who didn't Scare'

Find out how the hedgerow animals helped the scarecrow in this delightful story by Neil Griffiths. Afterwards make your own scarecrow to take home and help us to make some bread from the harvest.

After listening to the traditional tale of The Three Little Pigs, build your own houses from straw, sticks and bricks. Later look at some different houses from the past including the Iron Age House.

'The Treasure Hunt'

Based around the Percy the Park Keeper story by Nick Butterworth, use picture clues to find your way to a special place, but watch out for the road signs as you go! Once you arrive at the special place make a wild animal collage to take home with you.

*For local nursery groups we can arrange workshops at: 9.00 am until 11.00 am, 9.30 am until 11.30 am, 12.30pm until 2.30 pm or 1.00 pm until 3.00 pm. These shorter sessions include time for snacks, which your group provides.

For Reception classes a full day can include some of the Key Stage 1 workshops, at the normal school group prices.
