Video Conferencing

We have designed a series of workshops for Key Stage 2 and 3 students. Let your students utilise the Museum's buildings and teachers within your own classroom, for one hour.

Each workshop costs £75 and is hosted by JA.NET services.

The Victorian Blacksmith

Each village had a blacksmith who could make anything from metal. This fascinating demonstration allows children to understand the importance of the village blacksmith and provides an insight into industrial change in Victorian Britain. Covering the change from local craftsmen and travel limited by the capacity of horses to mass production and railway transport.

Experience a Victorian lesson from circa 1880. A selection of the Museum's Victorian artefacts will be available for your class to handle and describe.

The Manor Court

Discover the manor court through role play, whether acting the reeve, or the villain accused of tardiness and laziness or asking to take over a widow's land. Find out about the role of the villain on a medieval manor and the punishments and fines they were awarded.

Food and farming

How did food and farming change during the medieval period and how did it affect the common man? Discover the work of the farm labourer during the seasons, the effect of the wool trade and the use of herbs for food and medicine.

Travel and tourism

Interview a member of Museum staff on the following subjects:
Marketing; Event planning; Hospitality; Education and interpretation; Legal and statutory requirements (focusing on Health and Safety); Customer service and audience profiles; Chiltern Open Air Museum-structure and organisation
