Hands-on Spectacular

(Easter Weekend)

Join in the fun as we bring history alive this Easter with spectacular re-enactments and hands on activities for all the family over the holiday weekend..

Visit the villagers in Leagrave Cottage where our re-enactors will be cooking a typical meal for an 18th Century family. Then see the wheel turning as the ladies spin their wool (all weekend).

Marvel as Sharpe’s Rifles practise their drill. Meet the soldiers and their families as they prepare to march to war (Sunday and Monday only).

Traditional crafts and Easter celebrations will be available for visitors of all ages to take part in throughout the weekend.

Join in the hunt for clues around the Museum. Answer all the clues correctly to get your very own small chocolate Easter Egg.

Some activities may have a small additional charge.

Building Blocks - Be a Traditional Builder
10 - 11 April
How were our houses and barns built?

Get your hands dirty as you learn how to lay a brick, find out what wytchert is and how to build with this uniquely local building material. You can also try your hand at putting together a model timber frame barn.

The Diehards - Victorian Soldiers' Training Camp
17 & 18 April

Come along and see the Diehards - Victorian soliders depicting life in the Boer War - in their training camp for the weekend, practising drill and rifle firing techniques ready for battle! Meet the soldiers and find out what life was like for men in the army in Victorian times.

Best of British Crafts
Local Craft Talents Ccelebrate St George’s Day

24 & 25 April
Join us as we welcome British craftspeople to the Museum this weekend. This small crafts show housed in our historic buildings around the Museum site, highlights the skill and creativity of our local area. With pickles, treen and jewellery there is something to interest your whole family. Against the backdrop of our beautiful landscape and buildings we will also show you the traditional crafts of the Chilterns. Try your hand at lace making, rag rug making and furniture making, amongst many others.

Come along and enjoy the traditional Victorian Funfair for all the family (additional charges apply).

April - Living History Re-enactments, Demonstrations and Hands-on Activities for all the Family
