From chamber pots to an Edwardian Public Convenience and indoor plumbing, we look at the development of a necessity that we all take for granted in our unique event to celebrate 100 years since the death of Thomas Crapper, who invented the ballcock and bathroom showrooms.

Our Privy Trail takes you on a journey around the Museum's historic toilet exhibits, including a special replica iron age midden, recreated just for this event, along with amazing facts and quiz questions on early toilets!
Family Activities : 12.00 pm - 4.00 pm each day
Join in with soap carving, soap making and lavatory fun using hard toilet paper to trace images of early Thomas Crapper toilets.
Thomas Crapper Exhibition
We are very grateful to Thomas Crapper and Co for their kind loan of a number of early Thomas Crapper toilets and other Thomas Crapper exhibits! A unique chance to find out more about Thomas Crapper's contribution to the development of sanitaryware,. including the production of man hole covers! Two such covers feature in this exhibition and these can be used for brass rubbings! Purchase the new "Flushed with Pride" book from our shop afterwards, or special manufactured Thomas Crapper toilet rolls, postcards, carbolic soap, sheep poo paper and other very unusual lavatorial souvenirs from a unique weekend!
