Traditional Harvest Festival
1 & 2 October

Enjoy the sights and smells of a traditional harvest meal being prepared as it would have been 200 years ago. 

Experience the spectacular sight of the Museum's restored thrashing machine in action (weather permitting) thrashing the traditional rye crop, grown and harvested on the Museum site this year, and currently stored in the new corn rick behind Hill Farm Barn.

Join in our traditional harvest festival this year and find out about these seasonal traditions of the past.

  • Find out about Harvest food from 200 years ago at Leagrave Cottages all day
  • Discover more about Jack Hadden’s life in the 1880s at Harvest Time
    at Arborfield Barn 12.00 pm – 4.00 pm
  • Enjoy the story of “The Little Red Hen”
    at Arborfield Barn at 2.30 pm
  • Try your hand at threshing the corn at Hill Farm Barn
    12.00 pm - 4.00 pm
  • Explore traditional farming tools at Hill Farm Barn all day (Sunday only)
  • Visit the blacksmith’s forge throughout the day (Sunday only)
  • Have a go at pressing apples at Leavesden Apple Store
    12.00 pm - 4.00 pm (Sunday only)
  • Watch the 1947 Ransome's Thrashing Machine in action from
    2.30 - 3.00 pm & 3.45 - 4.15 pm (weather permitting)
  • Listen to the traditional folk singers around the Village Green area from 12.00 pm
  • Visit a produce stall from a local farmers market at Thame Vicarage Room all day
    (Chalfont Chillies and Rebecca Young Preserves – Saturday, Fatmanchilli  - Sunday)

Play with 1940s toys in Jane and Tommy’s bedroom in the Prefab, try out a 1940s typewriter in the RAF Briefing Room or test your building skills with our wooden models!

Normal Museum admission prices apply.

In addition, all the Museum's buildings will be open to visitors.

Family Friendly Activities
15 & 16 October

Play with 1940s toys in Jane and Tommy’s bedroom in the Prefab, try out a 1940s typewriter in the RAF Briefing Room or test your building skills with our wooden models!

The firearms rehearsal for the Royal Tournament, which was booked recently and due to take place over this weekend at the Museum, has now been cancelled by the re-enactors.

Come out this Halloween if you’re brave enough! Follow the candlelit trail to the village for the chance to marvel at the awesome fire eater. Then have your face painted or try your hand at the many spooky hands on and hands in Halloween activities.

As you walk through our woods to the storytelling house, you might come across a ghoul or two or meet a witch inhabiting one of our buildings as you trick or treat!

Warm up with a mouth watering barbecue and take part in the fancy dress competition on the Village Green.

This is the Halloween Party that you must come to this year.
