Learn how people used to celebrate Christmas

7th – 8th December 11am – 4pm

Traditional Christmas eventA special Christmas event

Come and find out about how Christmas was celebrated in the past. At this special Christmas event the Museum’s historic buildings will be decorated traditionally for Christmas and brought to life by costumed characters.

Visitors can meet Father Christmas and hand deliver their Christmas lists to him.

The reconstructed Victorian toll house will be decked with holly and ivy gathered from the woods and illuminated by candles and firelight, creating a warm, festive flair. The 1940s Prefab will show how people celebrated a restrained wartime Christmas enlivened by make-do-and-mend decorations.

There will be a small artisan Christmas market and the Museum’s shop will be full of handmade products made by local crafts people including jewellery, candles, preserves and gin – perfect for a bit of Christmas shopping!

Saturday 7th December – Twelve Below tonics will be in our shop offering free samples of their products.

Sunday 8th December – Chiltern Brewery will be in our shop offering free samples of their products.

Overflow parking will be at Newlands College (hard standing) instead of our usual field.

Standard admission prices apply. Free standard admission for annual pass holders.
