19th Century Fight for Liberty at Chiltern Open Air Museum

 

On 30th and 31st August, Chiltern Open Air Museum’s historic buildings will be inhabited by re-enactors recreating life in 19th-century England.  From soldiers and a gamekeeper with his hawk to a candle-maker, toll-house keeper and other costumed characters, there’ll be plenty to interest the whole family and falconry displays, military drill and a Radical protest will help bring this fascinating period of history to life.

 

  • Meet villagers from an 19th century village including farm labourers, pedlars, a toll keeper and a school mistress.
  • Visit the gamekeeper and his hawk.
  • Learn what life was like in 19th Century England and join in with family fun activities.

 

This is really interesting period of history is often overlooked, despite its profound influence on modern politics.  The beautiful collection of historic buildings here at the Museum form the perfect backdrop for this event, where visitors can enjoy the atmospheric setting and exciting living history displays.
