Flourish Project Funded by the Arts Council (UK) Resilience Fund

Fundraising sharing day for museums and heritage organisations

The Flourish Team

Flourish is an exciting and dynamic two year project, set up in the Spring of this year, by Chiltern Open Air Museum with the support of the Arts Council (UK) Resilience Fund. There are four partners, working together with a common purpose; Chiltern Open Air Museum (COAM) is the lead partner, with Tring Local History Museum (TLHM) and Great Western Society (Didcot Railway GWS).

The partners have formed an alliance, in order to develop and improve their individual proposition, with the objective of achieving step-change increases to regular income streams, as well as the less regular forms of revenue, e.g. from gifts and donations. The project aims to encourage the charity museum sector to become more resilient (and less reliant on receiving grants) through the testing of proven and innovative ideas; sharing good practices in fundraising across different short, medium and long term mediums.

Flourish, with the assistance of a full time project co-ordinator, also seeks to develop the working relationship, with the many dedicated volunteers, working at each of the partner museums, who give so much of their own time to support their museum. One of the project partners, Culture Force, specialises in this area, looking to pass on the benefit of their extensive volunteer based research both within the heritage museum sector as well as at other non-sector charities to encourage and nurture a culture of acceptance, appreciation, acknowledgement and inclusion.

We adopt sound strategies in order to develop our processes and improve our systems and marketing strategies, for the benefit of all stakeholders and interested parties. Further, we aim to grow our membership base through the encouragement of new members and to enhance the retention rate. Past donations have had a significant effect on each of the partner’s general well being. Future improvements and survival also depend heavily on further generous donations being received. Therefore, Flourish seeks to explore different ways of improving and extending communication with those who would wish to help their favourite museum to achieve their goals and who wish to be part of the fundraising journey.
