Rural Life Event

Join us for this event where you will learn about rural life and discover a range of traditional crafts. At this special event of heritage crafts you can see our saw pit, charcoal kiln and pole lathe in action. Come and learn about the traditional craft of straw plaiting and learn about hedge laying in a talk and demonstration. There will be a lavender craft activity for children.

The Museum has a working historic farm with livestock including cows, sheep, chickens and kid goats which you can explore. The Museum’s farm is a popular location and has been used in the filming of Downton Abbey, Grantchester, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher and many more.

  • Watch demonstrations of traditional crafts in and around the Museum’s historic buildings and site
  • Visit a selection of stalls selling traditional hand-made merchandise
  • Explore the Museum’s farm

On the 5th August we will be running a Willow Weaving workshop. The workshop takes place all day and costs £65 per person. Places on the workshop are limited and must be pre-booked.
