Materials Theme Day

Materials theme day for schools

Our Materials Theme Day – changing state

We explore suitability for purpose and how applying heat or friction can cause a temporary or permanent change. Uniquely, we offer this learning opportunity within a historical context: children learn about the permanent change of materials by creating butter from cream and how ‘heat’ changes wet ingredients into an edible griddle scone whilst cooking inside our 18th century cottage. The third session looks at candles and changing states. Some of the wax just melts and re-solidifies what happens to the rest of it?

Materials theme day is £385 for up to 32 children

Habitats Day (Autumn Term only)
COAM has some amazing habitats including three ponds, a wildflower meadow and woods. Each of these areas is home to a wide variety of different animals including deer, foxes, badgers, owls and some very special amphibians, namely Great Crested Newts. We are therefore only able to offer pond dipping in the autumn term due to the breeding season of these very rare and protected creatures.
