Nature and Science School Workshops

The Museum has a 45 acre site including woodlands, three ponds, farm and over 30 historic buildings that are made out of a variety of materials, making it an excellent venue for a science school workshop.

  • Habitats Theme Day

Explore the wonders of the natural world with our Habitats Theme Day. This themed day includes three engaging science and nature workshops; Owl Pellets, Woodland Habitats, and, from July to October, Pond Dipping.

Our Habitats Theme Day offers a unique opportunity to delve into the diverse ecosystems on our site, which has three ponds, gardens, a vibrant wildflower meadow, and woodlands.

We also have some amazing creatures including bats, owls and newts that inhabit these areas. Under our supervision, children are able to explore how insects have adapted to live safely within each of these environments.

This school theme day is an educational and hands-on experience. Each workshop will last for 45 minutes and are suitable for both KS1 and KS2.

  • Children mixing cream in a bowl to make butter

    Changing States Theme Day

On our Changing States Theme Day you choose two or three workshops including Cooking in the Past, Butter Making, Lighting in the Past, and Candle Making.

Our workshops take place within a historical context: children learn about the permanent change of materials by creating butter from cream and this takes place inside our traditional farm buildings, where butter would historically have been made.

Children learn how ‘heat’ changes wet ingredients into an edible griddle scone whilst cooking inside our 18th century cottage.

In our lighting workshop, we teach how light technology developed from the Iron Age to the Victorian era and children make comparisons between the efficiency of an oil lamp and a beeswax candle.

Theme Workshop Prices
