The Museum is dedicated to promoting health and wellbeing at our grounds situated in the beautiful Colne Valley Regional Park.

We regularly host Accompanied Walks, QiGong classes, mindfulness classes along with our annual Green Festival.

Accompanied Walks

Accompanied Walks provide an opportunity for members of the community who need some encouragement and support, or have little or no opportunity to venture outdoors and interact with other people. The programme is designed to support adults experiencing social isolation or bereavement, those with additional support needs and unpaid carers. Participants have the opportunity to enjoy an hourโ€™s walk around the Museum (or to be driven around in a golf buggy) and find out about our 37 heritage buildings, gardens, park and woodland, and chat over a cuppa. Supported by Amersham and Villages and Denham, Gerrards Cross and The Chalfonts Community Boards, Accompanied Walks are free of charge.

The positive impact of this project on our community members was acknowledged with the 'Best Local Social Prescribing Project' award by the National Social Prescribing Network in 2022.

Relax in our gardens and green spaces

Chiltern Open Air Museum is a fantastic place to relax and unwind in green spaces. You can take a leisurely stroll through the beautiful grounds, enjoy a picnic on the grass, or simply sit and soak up the peaceful atmosphere.

The Museum is set in 45 acres of stunning parkland, with plenty of trees and open spaces to explore. There are also plenty of benches and seating areas scattered throughout the site, so you can find a quiet spot to relax and take in the surroundings.

Qigong Taster Sessions

Qigong, part of Chinese medicine, optimises energy in body, mind, and spirit for overall health. Unlike Tai Chi, it's a wellness system, not a martial art. Breathing is vital in Qigong, addressing the common loss of effective breathing due to busy lifestyles.  Dating back 3000 years, Qigong's ancient exercises focus on controlled breathing and gentle movements.

Qigong is inclusive for all, and adaptable to any physical condition, whether standing or seated. Visualisation or listening to the form can still provide benefits, emphasising the power of a positive mindset.

In May and June we will be running some Qigong taster sessions with Ruth Stephenson. Please view our Events section for more details.

At COAM we want everyone to explore the site, make their own memories, in their own way, at their own pace. We encourage everyone to enjoy our beautiful, sustainable site, for their physical, mental and social wellbeing.

Please visit our Activities page for details on our special events, talks, demonstrations, classes and workshops.
