Camera Skills Photography Workshop

Take control of your camera and get creative with your photography in the inspiring setting of Chiltern Open Air Museum.

Join professional photographer Cat Cross for a friendly, hands-on Camera Skills Workshop designed to help you move beyond automatic settings and take your photography to the next level.

What You’ll Learn

Over the course of this 4-hour practical workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn how to use your camera’s manual settings

  • Understand shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and white balance

  • Explore composition, lighting, and lens choice

  • Discover simple techniques to dramatically improve your images

  • Practice your new skills with guided photography sessions around the Museum’s heritage buildings, traditional gardens, and beautiful Chilterns landscape

Whether you're a hobbyist, beginner, or looking to refresh your skills, this workshop will help you feel more confident and creative with your camera.

About Your Tutor: Cat Cross

Cat is a professional theatre and event photographer with over a decade of experience teaching photography skills. A PAGB camera club judge since 2016, she’s passionate about helping people enjoy the image-making process and unlock their creative potential.

Course Details

Date & Time: 11am – 3pm (selected dates)

Location: Chiltern Open Air Museum, Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire

Group Size: Max 6 participants for personalised tuition

Price: £100 per person

Skill Level: Suitable for beginners or intermediates using advanced compact, bridge, mirrorless, or DSLR cameras

Ages: GCSE or DofE Award students over 15 years old are welcome. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adult goes free if not participating in the workshop.

What to Bring

  • A camera (advanced compact, bridge, mirrorless, or DSLR)

  • Charged batteries and memory cards

  • A packed lunch and drink (light lunches also available at Skippings Barn Café)

  • Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing

  • Enthusiasm to learn and experiment!

Walking Grade: 1–2 (Easy to moderate walking across the Museum site)
