Wildlife Surveys at Chiltern Open Air Museum

Moth Trap Opening

10:30 to 12:00 17 May 2026

The Buckinghamshire Invertebrate Group will be on site setting up moth traps overnight, before opening them for Museum visitors on Sunday 17 May from 10:30am until 12pm.

A great opportunity to see a normally hidden world of wildlife at our beautiful site in the Chiltens.

What Species Could We Find?

This colourful Scarlet Tiger Moth was found in the High Wycombe Furniture Factory last year.

With over 870 species of large moth (known as macro moths) in the UK, weโ€™re excited to see which ones have made a home at the Museum.

Who are Buckinghamshire Invertebrate Group?

The Buckinghamshire Invertebrate Group (BIG) studies and records insects and other invertebrates in Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes. They organise field trips, indoor meetings and training events, and publish an annual bulletin. Members of the group have a wide range of interests, from microscopic rotifers to garden butterflies.
