Why COAM is a Great Place to Bring Your Dog

A young person is standing behind a brick garden wall holding a black small poodle, smiling and pointing at the camera.

We know that your dog is part of the family when you visit our open air museum. They are even part of our team! Several dogs often accompany members of staff during their working day and we love it when doggies come to visit.

We kindly ask that dogs are kept on a short lead and that dog owners are considerate of other visitors & Museum staff during their visit for the safety and enjoyment of everyone.

With over 45 acres of gardens and woodlands to explore there’s plenty of space for sniffy walks!

Dogs are welcome in our unfurnished buildings but not in our residential buildings like Amersham Prefab and Haddenham Cottage.

If there’s going to be cannons or gunfire during an event we will always put this on the event information page so you know in advance whether it is suitable for your dog.

We have two dog waste bins - one at the entrance opposite the ticket office and one near Didcot Cart Shed so please clean up after your dog.

We have water bowls for dogs outside the ticket office and at our café in Skippings Barn. We also have several drinking water taps marked on our map.

Doggie ice cream is available to purchase in our café - perfect for those hot summer days - along with yummy doggie snacks (there’s lots of human food options in the café too!).

COAM Annual Membership gives you unlimited daytime entry to the Museum on opening days - perfect for dog walkers who want to enjoy our site on a regular basis. By buying an annual membership or stopping for a cuppa in our café you’re supporting a local charity and helping to keep the heritage of the Chilterns accessible to thousands of people each year.
